Alabama Makes Field and Stream's Top 150 Best Fishing Spots

Field and Stream has named three Alabama places on their list of the Top 150 Best Fishing Spots. Lake Guntersville, Neely Henry Lake and Dixey Bar are on the list. The July issue of Outdoor Alabama featured fishing for bull redfish on Dixey Bar, which is located off the coast of Fort Morgan.

With the rising costs of gasoline, many vacationers are looking for summer recreation they can drive to that is close to home and won't put a dent in their pocketbook. The fun and excitement is practically right outside your back door, and it won't cost you an arm and a leg to go there. Alabama's 22 state parks are centrally located throughout the state and offer a wide range of affordable amenities for vacationers.

Fish Stocking for Private Pond is Available

Owners of new or renovated ponds may apply now to stock their ponds with largemouth bass and bream (bluegill and shellcracker). The Fisheries Section of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division will stock ponds that contain no fish and are larger than 1/4 surface acre (1/2 surface acre if pond is not to be fertilized). Celebrate Fall by
Becoming an Outdoors-Woman

As the leaves begin to turn and the air cools down, why not hit the trail to the next Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) workshop? This fall's fun-filled event will be held October 5-7, 2007, at the 4-H Center near Columbiana in Shelby County.

Registration is $199, and covers all meals, dormitory lodging, program materials and instruction. Enrollment is limited to 130 applicants, and classes fill up fast. To register, visit the ADCNR Web site.
