Overview
Dedicated by Forever Wild resolution as the Certain Nature Preserve and Recreation Area, this tract consists of 340 acres in Madison County that serve as an addition to tracts protected and managed by the Land Trust of Huntsville and North Alabama. The Certain Tract has one of the area’s only permanent mountain springs while supporting a small population of rare plants.
This tract was purchased in part through a financial contribution from the City of Huntsville, the Madison County Commission, the Land Trust of Huntsville and North Alabama, and the North Alabama Sierra Club.
Hiking
The Certain Tract is part of the larger Blevin’s Gap Nature Preserve that is managed by the Land Trust of North Alabama and the City of Huntsville. It provides hikers with a total of 11 miles of hiking trails with 3.7 miles of trail going through Certain Tract. Six of the 10 trails can be accessed from the parking area on Cecil Ashburn Drive SE. Directions
From Huntsville, take US 431 South approximately 7.6 miles to Sutton Rd. Turn right on Sutton Rd. and in approximately 0.7 miles Sutton Rd. becomes Cecil Ashburn Dr. SE. Follow Cecil Ashburn Dr. SE approximately 1.3 miles to the parking lot on the left.
